Husband Arrested Nine Years After Wife's Death in Sabarmati Riverfront Revealed as Murder
Nearly nine years after Komalben Solanki's death at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat was treated as an accident, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has uncovered it as a planned murder. Police arrested her husband, Minesh Dineshbhai Solanki, after reopening the 2017 case using technical evidence and witness records, exposing a crime allegedly driven by domestic disputes.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on June 25, 2017, during the annual chariot festival. Minesh had taken his wife out under the pretext of showing her different parts of the city. After spending the day visiting several locations across Ahmedabad, he took her to the Sabarmati Riverfront late at night.
Police said the couple was engaged in a conversation when Minesh suddenly caught Komalben off guard, lifted her and threw her into the river, causing her to drown. To conceal the crime, he went to Kalupur Police Station the following day and lodged a false missing person complaint.
Hours later, Komalben's body was recovered and an accidental death case was registered. The truth, however, remained hidden for nearly a decade.
Recently, acting on intelligence inputs, the Ahmedabad police reopened the case and examined technical data along with old witness records. The renewed investigation revealed that Minesh had killed his wife following persistent domestic disputes. The murder had been committed just four months after their marriage.
Based on the findings of the investigation, officials of the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch arrested Minesh Dineshbhai Solanki.
The breakthrough has brought to light a crime that had remained buried for almost nine years, transforming what was once considered an accidental death into a murder case and underscoring the importance of continued investigation and intelligence-based policing.
